Cornucopia

This post is part of the Tarot Blog Hop and our wrangler, Maureen, asked us “which card in the Tarot most corresponds with your own interpretation of the second harvest of the Autumnal Equinox” and invited us to create this card ourselves. But before we continue to my efforts in this regard, here are the links to enable you to navigate this Hop:

I must admit that I initially misread the specification for this Hop and was all set to create a new card, but after a long and busy Summer, my muse is off on her holidays somewhere and all I can think about is my planned Devil card. (Coming soon – watch this space!) I think you’ll agree that the Devil doesn’t really fit the bill on any level when it comes to a representation of the Equinox or, indeed, Autumn, and I was left scratching my head. That said, it has inspired me to add some additional cards to my deck to explicitly represent the seasons, so again, watch this space! 😀

Returning to the matter in hand, I started to think about obvious associations: Pentacles for Autumn, the date being in the sign of Virgo* and the 10 of Pentacles corresponding to the final decan of Virgo and perfectly representing the abundance at this time of year. Sadly, I have not had a chance to do my 1o of Pentacles and my muse has…yadda yadda.

*Virgo again! This came up in the last Hop post in connection with Mercury, which I understand is currently retrograde. Perhaps my Muse has hitched a ride there!

Virgo is also associated with both the Knight of Wands and The Hermit (as we saw in the last blog hop post), but in all honesty, neither of these cards even whisper Autumn or Equinox to me. Back to square one.

So, leaving aside the 10 of Pentacles, which would have been perfect had I managed to find the inspiration in time**, I asked myself which card sums up the abundance of harvest best for me and the answer came back… 😀

03-Empress

No convenient astrological associations, (The Empress is associated with Venus), but I can’t think of a better card for the harvest season, not even the 10 of Pentacles 😀

**I do now have an idea of what I want to do for this card, but may have missed the boat on the shot for this year. We shall see.

How’s this for an Autumn card? 😀

  1. Beautiful card. See? No need to think too hard with astrological associations and what not. You are right. Autumnal harvest brings with it abundance. The Empress is so appropriate:)
